National banks perform with AGV from ek robotics

Efficient intralogistics in the cash center: the transport robots used seamlessly connect various intralogistic functional areas, thus creating an optimized and continuous material flow at the respective locations.

On behalf of a leading German company for currency and security technologies, three driverless transport systems from ek robotics are currently optimizing intralogistics processes at three central banks worldwide.

In North Africa, a long-standing customer of ek robotics operates a state-of-the-art cash center as the hub of national cash processing. In 2018, the Hamburg-based family business took on the complex intralogistics project for its customer and implemented three innovative transport solutions to optimize ongoing processes and increase security using the latest automation technology. The result is three automated guided vehicle systems (AGVS) with a high-performance fleet of transport robots. The vehicles form the interface between a wide range of intralogistics functional areas over three floors. The cash centers of a central or national bank consist of several sensitive core areas that must be precisely interlinked in terms of logistics. The AGVs connect these areas, forming an optimal and reliable intralogistics transport chain.

“Developing and realizing an automated cash center is a demanding task,” says Ronald Kretschmer, Chief Sales Officer at ek robotics. ”Processes that depend on efficiency and security must be seamlessly integrated to ensure optimal transport performance and efficient material flows. For these international automation projects, our experts have developed customized transport solutions that precisely meet the transport and environmental requirements.” The automated guided vehicles from ek robotics enable the operators of the cash centers to link different production and logistics areas even more efficiently and automatically, and are a key factor in ensuring sustainable profitability. The three existing intralogistics solutions have been so convincing that three automated guided vehicle fleets of up to 20 vehicles each will soon be optimizing intralogistics processes and safely transporting materials within two other state-of-the-art central banks in Southeast Asia and South America.

More efficiency with automated transport solutions

A national bank in Southeast Asia will operate an AGV from ek robotics at two locations in the future. At both locations, a total of 26 transport platforms from the X MOVE series will take over intralogistics transport on several floors. The X MOVE 1200 vehicles are each equipped with a roller conveyor including a barcode scanner for loads of up to 900 kg. Intelligent networking of the vehicles with the numerous interfaces of the central bank leads to optimal intralogistics transparency and cost-effectiveness.

International automation projects for increased process efficiency

At a central bank in South America, the experts from ek robotics are replacing an existing automated guided vehicle system. The changeover to the new system is being carried out during ongoing operations, without interrupting the processes that are in progress. After commissioning, a fleet of transport robots from the modular VARIO MOVE series will be used to carry out the intralogistics transports fully automatically and with a high degree of efficiency. All six transport robots are equipped with external radar arms and hybrid laser navigation. With their short wheelbases, fully automated transport with a small turning circle is possible.

With 61 years of expertise in transport robotics, ek robotics provides long-term support for the intralogistics projects of its partners and customers over the life cycles of the systems and offers a wide range of solutions for individual automation processes. Comprehensive training courses at its own academy, material flow simulations, software solutions for system optimization, extensions to existing systems and a long-term spare parts supply round off the portfolio of the high-tech company for transport robotics.

A cash center in North Africa is also home to a third AGV: a total of six FAST MOVE transport robots with 8-fold roller conveyors are responsible for the supply and disposal of the money counting machines as well as the connection to other conveyor systems
