Infinite Colors of People | Interview #5

In conversation with Lisa – Project Manager and NextGen Talent at ek robotics

Lisa is right in the middle of turning complex requirements into smart solutions with transport robotics. As a project manager at ek robotics, she is responsible for coordinating internal and external interfaces, structuring processes, communicating with customers—and remaining calm even in turbulent times. In this interview, she reveals what drives her, what makes her proud, and why Taylor Swift means more to her than just music.

Lisa, what led you to the field of automation and, specifically, to AGV and AMR solutions?

My master's degree in industrial engineering with a focus on technical logistics and operations & supply chain management laid the foundation. I first came into direct contact with AGVs through various modules and specialist lectures – and especially through an excursion to the former ek robotics site in Rosengarten. I was so impressed by the visit that I applied immediately. My enthusiasm for the technology has never waned. I find the versatility particularly exciting: every system and every customer process brings new challenges. This dynamic keeps me motivated.

What skills do you consider particularly important in project management?

Three things are crucial for me:

  1. Structure and overview: A project must be well planned and actively managed, otherwise you quickly get lost in the details.

  2. Communication: How you talk to stakeholders, the team, and customers has a huge impact on the success of a project.

  3. Personal responsibility and flexibility: Making decisions, managing change, taking responsibility, and still remaining calm—it's all part of the job.

I try to develop these skills continuously. It's a never-ending learning process.

How do you manage to keep your workday productive and focused?

I work with clear priority lists – this is essential, especially in multi-project management. When I have a lot of things to do at the same time, this structure helps me keep track of everything. I deliberately combine larger tasks with quick to-dos in order to achieve visible progress – that motivates me. And switching between concentrated work at my desk and updates directly on the vehicle in the hall provides variety and fresh energy.

What has been your career highlight so far?

There are several that I look back on with pride:

Being accepted into the first NextGen program at ek robotics was a great honor. When I was entrusted with my first project, that was a special moment. I was responsible from start to finish. Being appointed deputy head of department further underlined the trust placed in me and my performance. But personal milestones also make me proud – such as the moment I was handed the keys to my current apartment or the sporting achievements I have worked hard to achieve.

Is there a book, film, or person who has inspired you?

Definitely Taylor Swift. She accompanies me like a piece of home, no matter where I am. What impresses me about her is her authenticity, her courage, and her entrepreneurial spirit. She uses her voice to draw attention to injustices, but always remains approachable. Her clarity and determination are inspiring to me, both professionally and personally.

Do you have a dream you would like to fulfill?

I would like to travel through the Scottish Highlands or along the Irish west coast in a camper van someday—waking up in a different beautiful place every day, enjoying the scenery, and slowing down. It's still an unfulfilled dream, but who knows, maybe it will come true someday.

How do you collaborate with other departments, for example when it comes to customer feedback?

As a project manager, I am the link between the customer and our internal teams. I ensure that all relevant information is passed on to the right departments and, conversely, that feedback is neatly bundled and sent back to the customer. We use different communication channels depending on the situation: regular meetings with the project teams, direct phone calls, emails, or tools such as our Azure Board. A lot of things are now done digitally, but I really value face-to-face conversations, especially when it comes to complex issues involving several people. It's often the fastest and most efficient way.

What challenges do you regularly encounter in your projects and how do you deal with them?

Every day brings new challenges. These can be spontaneous customer requirements, personnel bottlenecks in the project team, or external factors such as supply chain problems. The reality is that projects rarely go as planned. And that's exactly why project managers are needed. Our job is to remain flexible, identify risks early on, and minimize the impact on quality, time, and costs. I also try to see every challenge as an opportunity—this not only makes the work more solution-oriented, but also more exciting.

Lisa is part of the first NextGen generation at ek robotics – and not without reason. With her strategic vision and ability to maintain an overview even in stressful situations, she is actively shaping the future of transport robotics. Whether as a project manager or team player, Lisa demonstrates how modern automation works excellently, not only technically but also on a human level.
